Press+ launched its first newspaper affiliate today, Lancaster Online, the web site of Pennsylvania's Lancaster Intelligencer and New Era, based almost entirely on Harmonica's software and project management.
Press+ is Journalism Online's paid content platform, created by Harmonica over the past year or so. With the platform, newspaper web sites and online news outlets can let their readers buy subscriptions or pay for premium content using a single universal account. We built the platform to be flexible and very easily installed, and more affiliates will be launching soon.
I'm very excited about this project. I've spent nearly my entire career in online news, including building the editing system and overseeing several generations of the paid content platform at The Wall Street Journal Online, and I believe very firmly that journalism is valuable and worth paying for.
It was also a pleasure to work with local newspapers and editors; despite their economic challenges, local newspapers are still almost always the best source of local information. And local news is where I got my start. The editors seemed to appreciate that background as well.
